FAQ
1. CONSULTATION & SELECTION
WHICH MATERIALS AND COLORS ARE AVAILABLE?
Depending on the model, we offer engagement rings in 18k gold (750), 14k gold (585), and/or Platinum 950, as well as selected Niessing Colors. The exact options vary by design.
HOW DO I FIND THE RIGHT RING SIZE?
Use our ring size finder or schedule an appointment at a Niessing store or with one of our authorized retail partners to determine the correct ring size.
WHAT SHOULD I DO IF I DON’T KNOW MY PARTNER’S RING SIZE?
For surprise proposals, rings your partner already wears can often provide a useful reference. In addition, our sizing tools and personal consultation services can help determine the correct size as accurately as possible. Many designs can also be resized later.
CAN I WEAR THE ENGAGEMENT RING TOGETHER WITH A WEDDING BAND LATER ON?
Yes. Many designs are intentionally created to be worn as part of a bridal set. Some styles are specifically designed to accommodate a wedding band comfortably alongside them. Trying both rings on together is the best way to ensure a perfect fit.
ARE ENGRAVING OR PERSONALIZATION OPTIONS AVAILABLE?
Yes. We offer engraving services as well as a variety of textures, metal colors, and diamond options. Available customization choices can be found on the product pages, or you can receive personalized advice in a Niessing store or from an authorized retail partner.
HOW MUCH SHOULD AN ENGAGEMENT RING COST?
The right engagement ring depends on your personal preferences, the chosen design, the diamond, and your budget. Whether minimalist, classic, or iconic like the Niessing Spannring®, the most important thing is that the ring reflects your shared story.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN AN ENGAGEMENT RING AND A WEDDING BAND?
An engagement ring symbolizes the promise of marriage and is traditionally presented during a proposal. A wedding band marks the marriage itself and is usually worn as part of a pair. Many Niessing engagement rings can be beautifully paired with wedding bands as a bridal set.
WHAT DIAMOND SIZE IS APPROPRIATE FOR AN ENGAGEMENT RING?
The ideal diamond size depends on personal style and the desired design. Some prefer a subtle, understated brilliant-cut diamond, while others favor a more distinctive statement stone. The “Four Cs”—Cut, Color, Clarity, and Carat Weight—provide helpful guidance when making a selection.
WHAT DIAMOND CUTS DOES NIESSING OFFER?
Depending on the collection, Niessing offers various diamond shapes and setting styles, including classic round brilliant cuts as well as selected contemporary interpretations. Some designs intentionally emphasize proportion, light, and the diamond’s apparent weightlessness.
CAN I BUY AN ENGAGEMENT RING ONLINE, OR SHOULD I SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT?
Both options are available. Many engagement rings can be explored online and, in some cases, purchased directly. For personalized guidance regarding ring size, diamond selection, or pairing with wedding bands, we recommend scheduling an appointment at a Niessing store or with an authorized partner.
WHICH ENGAGEMENT RING SUITS WHICH STYLE?
Minimalist designs such as the Niessing Spannring® offer a modern, architectural look, while classic solitaire rings provide timeless elegance. Delicate designs create a refined, feminine appearance, while bold styles emphasize personality and individuality.
WHICH FINGER SHOULD AN ENGAGEMENT RING BE WORN ON?
Traditions vary depending on the country and personal preference. Engagement rings are often worn on the ring finger of either the left or right hand. Many couples choose the option that feels most meaningful to them.
WHEN IS AN ENGAGEMENT RING TRADITIONALLY GIVEN?
An engagement ring is traditionally presented during a marriage proposal. It symbolizes two people’s commitment to continue their journey together.
CAN AN ENGAGEMENT RING AND WEDDING BAND BE WORN TOGETHER?
Yes. Many people wear both rings together. Numerous Niessing designs are intentionally created so that engagement rings and wedding bands can be combined harmoniously.
2. DIAMONDS & MATERIALS
WHAT MAKES A NIESSING ENGAGEMENT RING SPECIAL?
Since 1873, Niessing has combined design, innovation, and master goldsmithing in its own German manufactory. Iconic designs such as the Niessing Spannring® allow diamonds to appear as if they are floating freely and represent a modern, emotional design language.
ARE THE ENGAGEMENT RINGS MADE IN GERMANY?
Yes. Every piece of jewelry is crafted in the Niessing manufactory in Vreden, Germany—from melting the precious metals to the finished ring.
CAN ENGAGEMENT RINGS BE CUSTOMIZED?
Yes. Niessing engagement rings can be personalized through the selection of diamond size, precious metal, Niessing Color, texture, or engraving. This allows you to create a ring that reflects both personality and shared memories.
WHICH NIESSING COLORS ARE ESPECIALLY SUITABLE FOR ENGAGEMENT RINGS?
The choice of gold color is a matter of personal style. Warm shades such as Rosewood and Classic Red create an emotional and sensual look, while lighter tones such as Fine Gray and Platinum offer a modern, minimalist aesthetic. Niessing Colors provide numerous opportunities for individual expression.
WHICH MATERIALS ARE ESPECIALLY DURABLE?
18k gold (750) and Platinum 950 are excellent choices for jewelry worn every day. Platinum is known for its exceptional durability, while gold in various Niessing Colors offers distinctive and unique color nuances.
ARE THE DIAMONDS CERTIFIED AND RESPONSIBLY SOURCED?
We adhere to the Kimberley Process System of Warranties and conduct additional diamond verification in our own diamond laboratory. For Canadian brilliant-cut diamonds, we also offer traceability from the mine to the finished stone. Individual certificates are provided for diamonds weighing 0.30 carats and above.
HOW CAN I RECOGNIZE A HIGH-QUALITY DIAMOND?
High-quality diamonds are distinguished by their fire, brilliance, and unique visual character. The internationally recognized “Four Cs”—Cut, Color, Clarity, and Carat Weight—provide a useful framework for evaluation. At Niessing, every diamond is also examined in our own diamond laboratory.
WHAT DO THE FOUR CS OF DIAMONDS MEAN?
The Four Cs stand for Cut, Color, Clarity, and Carat Weight. Together, they describe the quality and character of a diamond. Niessing adds a fifth C: Confidence—trust.
WHAT IS A TENSION RING?
The Niessing Spannring® holds the diamond solely through the tension of the precious metal, without the use of a traditional setting. As a result, the diamond appears to float freely above the finger. This design concept is considered a global icon of modern jewelry design.
3. SIZING, ADJUSTMENTS & CARE
HOW DO I CARE FOR A DIAMOND ENGAGEMENT RING?
We recommend cleaning your ring with warm water, mild soap, and a soft cloth or small brush. For diamond jewelry worn daily, professional inspections every one to two years are advisable.
WHAT WARRANTY AND REPAIR SERVICES ARE AVAILABLE?
We provide an international two-year warranty from the date of purchase. Inspections, refinishing, restoration, and repairs are carried out through authorized partners. Unauthorized modifications may affect warranty coverage and future service options.
CAN AN ENGAGEMENT RING BE RESIZED AFTER PURCHASE?
Many designs can be resized after purchase. Whether resizing is possible—and to what extent—depends on the specific design. We are happy to advise you in person, either in-store or through the Niessing Concierge service.
ARE ENGAGEMENT RINGS SUITABLE FOR EVERYDAY WEAR?
Yes. Niessing engagement rings are designed for daily wear and combine exceptional craftsmanship with enduring design. Regular care and occasional professional inspections help preserve their beauty over time.
HOW OFTEN SHOULD AN ENGAGEMENT RING BE PROFESSIONALLY INSPECTED OR CLEANED?
For jewelry worn regularly, we recommend a professional inspection every one to two years. During these visits, the setting, surface finish, and diamonds can be checked, and the ring can be professionally restored if needed.
WHAT HAPPENS IF A DIAMOND BECOMES LOOSE OR IS LOST?
Please have the ring inspected by an authorized Niessing partner as soon as possible. Early evaluation allows potential issues to be identified and professionally addressed before further damage occurs.
CAN THE SURFACE FINISH OF A RING BE RESTORED LATER?
Yes. Depending on the design, surfaces can be refreshed or completely refinished so that the ring retains its original appearance and character.
