THE BEST OF EACH

HANDCRAFT AND HIGHTECH

THE BEST OF EACH

Each individual piece of jewelry goes through many hands before it is ready to wear. At Niessing, we combine many different methods of work, from traditional techniques to cutting-edge technologies. One work step will require the master goldsmith’s steady hand, while the very next one will involve the latest laser technology.
TRADITIONAL AND INNOVATIVE

HANDCRAFT AND HIGHTECH

TRADITIONAL AND INNOVATIVE

The one thing that is absolutely unthinkable to us is mass production. Each piece of Niessing jewelry is a valuable original, manufactured specifically for you. In our work, quality and aesthetics come first. Research and development are carried out jointly by the workshop and the design department. Only by employing the best of each can the exceptional be created. Clear forms, strong emotions, and design of the highest quality.

FAQ

WHERE IS NIESSING JEWELRY MADE?

All Niessing jewelry pieces are made at the manufactory in Vreden, near the German-Dutch border. Vreden has been the company's headquarters since 1873. Production takes place under one roof — from melting and alloying the precious metals to the finished jewelry piece.

HOW LONG HAS THE NIESSING MANUFACTORY BEEN EXISTING?

Since 1873. That year, Hermann Niessing founded a jewelry workshop in Vreden. In 1904, Niessing invented the seamless wedding ring — a ring without beginning or end. Since the 1970s, Niessing has produced jewelry in addition to wedding rings, since the 1980s the Niessing Spannring®, and since 1993 watches as well. In 2023, Niessing celebrated 150 years of manufactory history.

WHAT DOES “MANUFACTORY” MEAN AT NIESSING?

At Niessing, production takes place in-house: from melting the gold and platinum bars and alloying the precious metals to the finished jewelry piece, the essential production steps are carried out in Vreden. Mass production is excluded — every Niessing jewelry piece is individually made for a specific customer.

HOW IS A NIESSING JEWELRY PIECE MADE?

The creation of a Niessing jewelry piece begins with the precious metal itself. Gold and platinum are melted and alloyed in Niessing's own manufactory. Depending on the design, the jewelry piece then passes through various craftsmanship and technical production steps until its form, surface and, where applicable, diamonds receive their final finish. This is how every jewelry piece is created step by step at the manufactory in Vreden.

IS NIESSING JEWELRY MADE BY HAND OR BY MACHINE?

Both, deliberately combined. Many people contribute their skills before a single jewelry piece is finished, using a wide range of techniques — from traditional to highly innovative. One production step requires the steady hand of a goldsmith, while the next may involve state-of-the-art technology such as a laser. Traditional goldsmithing and high-tech processes go hand in hand at Niessing. For quality reasons, Niessing deliberately avoids the casting techniques commonly used in the jewelry industry. Every jewelry piece is created from an alloyed, highly compacted precious-metal bar and individually finished in numerous steps.

DOES NIESSING PRODUCE ITS OWN GOLD AND PLATINUM ALLOYS?

Yes. The entire alloying process takes place at Niessing's own manufactory in Vreden. Niessing melts and alloys the precious metals itself and has built up exceptional expertise in alloys and colors over decades. The characteristic Niessing Colors are also based on this expertise. Developing its own alloys allow Niessing to precisely coordinate the color, material properties and requirements of each jewelry design.

HOW DO THE DESIGN STUDIO AND THE MANUFACTORY WORK TOGETHER AT NIESSING?

Design and production are closely connected at Niessing. The Design Studio and the manufactory collaborate on research and development together to create new forms, colors and technical solutions. Design ideas meet craftsmanship and technical expertise directly. This allows designs to be developed and tested , and ultimately brought to life at the manufactory in Vreden.

CAN I VISIT THE NIESSING MANUFACTORY?
